It is the union's obligation through the collective bargaining process to ensure that its members' interest is reflected in the collective labour agreement which regulates the workers terms of employment.
The union is also obligated to protect its members by way of representation in disciplinary and grievance matters including dismissal.
The union promotes and identify trends in industrial relations at the national level which will impact its members. The union through its public advocacy and membership in the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Union strives to influence public policy which will benefit workers. Currently the union is advocating for changes in contract employment, adoption of legislation regarding Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Paternity Leave, Sexual Harrassment among others.
